Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio said last week that it would be making an “important” announcement related to the Like a Dragon series today, with many expecting that new details would be shared in the series’ next instalment- which is sort of what’s happened. During the recent episode of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio TV, though a new Like a Dragon game wasn’t announced, RGG Studio shared the first behind-the-scenes update on it.

Specifically, the studio announced that it will be holding casting auditions for the next Like a Dragon game soon, similar to the live-action hostess casting auditions that were held for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, with full details set to be revealed “in the near future” (via Gematsu).

What exactly this next game will be wasn’t revealed, but series director Masayoshi Yokoyama confirmed that it won’t be Like a Dragon Kiwami 3– though interestingly, Yokoyama added that the frequently requested remake is “definitely” going to get made “at some point.” Read more on that through here.

Recently, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio technical director Yutaka Ita said in an interview that the developer would continue to use its internal Dragon Engine for Like a Dragon games, despite having used Unreal Engine 4 for Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Like a Dragon’s last major release was, of course, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which released earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim. The game sold over 1 million units in its first week, with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio deeming its sales “incredibly strong”.
