According to GameSpot’s official Twitter, Volition Inc.’s open world follow-up Saints Row IV has been banned in Australia.
As of now, details for the ban are still pending – though it is likely the game was refused certification due to the nature of its content. Australia, previously lacking any real certification for Adults-only games, now has the R18+ rating. Like the AO rating in the United States, this is as good as a death sentence since most retail stores do not carry AO games.
In the same way, sales of R18+ games are restricted to those who are over 18. Has Saints Row’s risque nature finally caught up with Volition? It’s hard to tell at this point.
Saints Row IV is set to release on August 20th in North America and will release on August 23rd in Europe for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. This edition sees the Saints battling an extra-terrestrial threat to save the world.
