Grotesque Yet Organic Aesthetic
Though there’s an air of mystery pervading the opening segments, Silent Hill 3’s journey is also one about discovery. As such, it employs a more grotesque and dirty aesthetic to its environments and entities, making things feel strangely organic. The perfect encapsulation of this can be the storeroom in Brookhaven Hospital where Heather looks at her reflection – and the room itself – as blood slowly paints it…which is subsequently transferred to her side, resulting in her death. It not only amplifies her spectrophobia (and the feeling of a darker entity within her) but also the grotesqueness of the environment.
