Better mission structure
The objectives in Crysis 2 always kept you on your toes, but they were all fairly similar. If it wasn’t about wiping out aliens in a particular area, then it saw you going from A to B. Sniper Ghost Warrior was a bit more creative in this department, with full blown stealth missions, daring escapes, and tense long range assassinations. With this kind of solid mission based structure, SGW2 could win over those who felt unsatisfied with the meandering elements of Crysis 2’s campaign.
A more complex narrative
Crysis 2 puts you in the shoes of one individual’s personal journey, albeit a somewhat enhanced quest on account of the power of the nano suit. Sniper Ghost Warrior was a bit more adventurous, with a three way split narrative that intersected at surprising junctions. It may not have always worked, but it should certainly be respected for its ambition. If City Interactive can create an equally deep, but more refined, narrative then you can expect Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 to carve out a solid name for itself.
Greater tension
Crysis 2 certainly offered some tense moments. Getting stealth mode activated just in time, fighting off hordes of aliens, hoping that you have enough energy to keep armour mode going etc. That said, it doesn’t compare to the tension you feel when you need to line up that one perfect head shot. That one shot, one kill mind frame is at its peak in Sniper Ghost Warrior, and it lent the game a sense of urgency that its sequel is sure to keep going.
