Sega has released a new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, showing off the various multiplayer modes that will be available in the upcoming kart racer. The trailer, which you can check out below, pits four rivals from the Soniic franchise against each other: Sonic, Shadow, Jet, and Espio. The four of them race across various tracks from throughout the game, before the trailer then goes into showcasing different race types.

The trailer proudly boasts that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature multiplayer on every single one of its levels, and that the network test will feature game modes like Grand Prix, Time Trial and Race Park Modes. The game will also allow for four-player splitscreen multiplayer when it comes out. The kart racer will also feature cross-platform matchmaking for players on separate platforms. All of these multiplayer features, aside from local splitscreen, will be available in the upcoming open network test for the game.

On the official website for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega has also confirmed that save data from the open network test will not be carried over to the full game. This means that any progression system that exists in the game, like character or cosmetic unlocks, will be limited to the network test itself.

The open network test for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be kicking off on August 28 at 9 PM PT, and will go on until September 1, 9 PM PT. It was announced earlier this week, along with confirmation that Grand Prix and Time Trial modes will be available through the open network test as well as offline single player game modes.

Back in July, Sega had revealed that, while Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature plenty of crossover characters from various franchises, these characters will not feature in-game voice lines. Franchise head Takashi Iizuka said that this was because dialogue for the game was limited to the 24 characters from the Sonic franchise that will be playable in the game.

“There is no dialogue for collaboration characters,” said Iizuka. “Because of the IP, the voice dialogue is limited to the 24 Sonic characters.” However, fans have also since noticed through a trailer released by Sega that DLC characters that already fall under the Sega will also not feature voice lines. This includes pre-order bonus character Werehog, who was completely silent throughout the clip showcased by Sega.

Some of the crossover characters confirmed for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are vocaloid pop star Hatsune Miku, as well as Nickelodeon characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star. Characters from other Sega franchises like Yakuza/Like a Dragon and Persona will also be present in the game, with Ichiban Kasuga and Joker being confirmed. As for race tracks, the kart racer will feature zones and areas from across the Sonic franchise.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on September 25. The game is also slated to make its way on to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. For more details, check out the customisation options that will be available for players when the title is out.
