More PS4 Exclusives
Whilst it’s likely all the PS4 games shown off at the February reveal will return in payable form at E3, more game announcements need to be made for the console to truly pull ahead of the Xbox One. With Naughty Dog finished with The Last of Us, they’d have great momentum to announce a new Uncharted game or a new IP altogether. Likewise, the rumoured revival of previously hyped PS3 vapourware such as Rockstar’s Agent and The Last Guardian could really boost hype for the new system. Of course, those last two are more a hope than a reality, but the rumours do sound promising.
Concrete Backwards Compatibility Info
Another key area for Sony to gain market traction, the platform holder would be foolish not to capitalise on the Xbox One’s revealed incompatibility with Xbox 360 games and peripherals. The streaming tech discussed at the PS4 reveal is an exciting part of the new PlayStation experience, one that Sony will hopefully be elaborating upon. Even if full details aren’t revealed, a more in depth release window should be given.
The PS4 Console
Sony’s PS4 reveal was a success in spite of a suspicious absence of the console itself. It’s frustrating having not seen the actual unit yet, a sentiment exacerbated by Sony’s weird video that showed what looks like a blurred out version of the system. I’d be hugely surprised if Sony didn’t finally put us out of our misery by showing the new machine. That said, it wouldn’t be the first time the hardware giant have frustrated us at E3. Still, seeing the console is very likely.
A Vita Price Drop
The Vita, despite being a solid piece of kit, lacks the quality software to justify its high retail price. The price drop in Japan worked wonders for system sales, but Sony have resolutely avoided this in the west. We can only hope they’ve been saving a big price drop announcement for the E3 conference, otherwise the Vita may run into some serious trouble.
