Spider-Man, God of War Are Evidence That There Is A Huge Audience For Single Player Games – Sony Exec

The proof is in the pudding- just take a look at their sales figures.

In spite of 2018 being its fifth year on the market – which is generally a time when consoles begin to lose momentum in terms of both, sales and releases – the PS4 showed no signs of slowing down this year. In fact, this may even have been the best year the console has ever had. Among the many reasons for that fact is Sony’s constantly impressive and consistently improving first party support for the hardware, with games such as Shadow of the Colossus, Detroit: Become Human, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Spider-Man, and God of War all having launched this year.

Recently, while speaking with MCVUK (via Wccftech) in their latest issue (Issue 942), Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe’s Vice President & Managing Director Warwick Light touched upon the topic of Sony’s conduct this year, mentioning that the company did what it believed in the most, which is to put out excellent single player, story-focussed games, before going on to say that the stellar performances of Spider-Man and God of War have only reaffirmed that there is still a huge audience for that sort of game.

“While 2018 was indisputably a big year for Fortnite, it was also a year which saw us really act like a publisher and focus on our exclusive titles whether it was God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit or VR titles such as Astro Bot,” said Light. “Buzzwords are one thing, what our players are demanding is another. There’s still a huge audience for games that offer the best in single player narrative with stunning gameplay, as witnessed by the enormous popularity of both Spider-Man and God of War in this year’s charts.”

What’s excellent for PS4 owners is that 2019 has the potential to be another excellent year. Days Gone and Dreams are slated for 2019 releases, and though Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us- Part 2, and Death Stranding don’t have any release dates confirmed, there’s a chance that they launch next year as well (or some of them, at the very least).
