Toys for Bob – a studio known for remaking the classic Spyro the Dragon trilogy as well as its work on Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time – has expressed interest in making a new game in the Banjo-Kazooie series. In a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast, associate creative director at the studio, Lou Studdert, and studio head, Paul Yan, were asked about a new Banjo-Kazooie game, which led to both of them laughing because the subject had come up quite often in the past.

Studdert said that Toys for Bob loves the Banjo-Kazooie franchise, calling the franchise as being “at the top of the heap” when it comes to 3D platformers. Considering how many of the studio’s employees love Banjo-Kazooie, he said that “if the opportunity ever arose, that’d be amazing. We love the franchise.”

Yan made note of the fact that the studio has come to be known for its work on critically-acclaimed 3D platformers. He also argued against there being a nostalgia attached to the franchise, and instead said that the characters are timeless and iconic.

“If you look at the throughline of the types of games that we like to make, I can imagine that that’s part of that staple as well,” said Yan. “Those characters, you described as ‘nostalgic.’ I think that’s one way of looking at it. I think of them as timeless. They’re iconic. The types of games that we want to produce are ones that speak to a timeless place in the player as well, an ageless place, right? We call it the inner child. So I think those are wonderful games. We’re huge fans.”

Toys for Bob has been an independent studio since it was spun off from Activision back in 2024. Interestingly, there had been many rumors about the studio potentially working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game following the event. Back in July 2025, a report indicated that Microsoft was accepting pitches for the franchise and that Toys for Bob was interested in working on it.

“I heard constantly the name that comes up is Toys for Bob, who really wanna do one,” said VGC’s Andy Robinson. “Funnily enough, I heard Moon Studios, as well, was another one who’s really interested.”

More recently, however, the studio confirmed that it had been working on a new entry in the Spyro franchise by unveiling its upcoming title – Spyro: A Realm Beyond. Being developed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, the 3D platformer is slated for release in Spring 2027.

In the meantime, quite a few details about the title have been revealed. Yan confirmed, for example, that players will be able to experience “the freedom of true dragon flight” in Spyro: A Realm Beyond thanks to the fact that players will be taking on the role of an older Spyro. The protagonist has been described as “small but mighty”, which means that he “could be both nimble and still very physical when actively pushing his way through the air.” Studdert and Yan have also said that the studio is aiming for “zen-like fluidity” with its flight mechanics.
