Crowd-funded space-sim Star Citizen continues to receive funding pledges worldwide and now stands at a total of $35 million. According to creator Christ Roberts, “a large amount” of funding came from 6,617 new backers, with the total number of backers numbering over 330,000.

In a new open letter celebrating the milestone, Roberts stated that, “You’re not just re-writing the rules of how games are made and funded but you’re showing the power that a committed community has to achieve a vision that so many people said was no longer relevant. You’ve broken every record there is in crowd funding – and not just for games – for any type of project.”

Of course, there will be new stretch goals for the $36 million, $37 million and $38 million marks, but backers can meanwhile be satisfied with having unlocked the Drake Herald, the last fan-voted ship design for the game.
