If you’ve ever wanted to experience and interact with Steam using the power of virtual reality – and happen to have an Oculus Rift dev kit on hand – then today’s your lucky day. Valve has announced a beta for SteamVR which works with Rift to allow for interactive immersion with Steam.
“As of the most recent Steam Client Beta steam now supports an experimental VR mode. If you own an Oculus Rift dev kit you can try it out by starting Steam with ‘-vr’ on the command line. Then press the Big Picture button to enter Big Picture + VR mode,” stated programmer Joe Ludwig.
The full SDK for the same will be showcased to developers at the Steam Dev Days event slated for tomorrow and day after, with the aim of providing a standardised solution for VR interfaces. Check out the beta and leave your impressons on the same below – though keep in mind that it’s a work in progress.
