Trailer seemingly teases the studio's new projects while also showcasing how its new logo adapts to different genres and settings.

After teasing some news recently, Dontnod Entertainment has announced a rebranding to DON’T NOD. Along with unveiling a new logo and revamped website, it also released a new video which showcases how the logo can be adapted to various genres and settings. The trailer also seems to tease the company’s upcoming projects.

Founded in June 2008, DON’T NOD employs 320 staff currently. While still developing games, it also shifted to publishing in recent years. It currently has many “human-sized teams” that are working on “six exciting upcoming internal projects”, which is something the developer has mentioned in the past as well.

CEO Oskar Guilbert stated, “I am very proud of the journey that DON’T NOD has been on over the past 14 years.

“The company has evolved in many ways with a strong will to lead the way in creating and curating meaningful entertainment, through original and relatable stories, which empower our talents and players to inspire change, however small. This new brand’s visual overhaul will help us convey our core identity.”

The last major title released by the studio was Twin Mirror, an investigative adventure thriller for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In terms of future releases, DON’T NOD has quite a lot on its plate. It’s planning to self-publish five titles between 2022 and 2025, including PortaPlay’s Gerda: A Flame in Winter which releases on September 1st for PC. Development has also ramped up on its next RPG with Focus Entertainment following the success of Vampyr. Stay tuned for details on its other games in the coming months.

The French developer says it'll have new news and "some clues" to share tomorrow about what it's currently working on.

2020 saw a flurry of activity from Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment with multiple major releases in Tell Me Why and Twin Mirror, but the studio has been rather silent in the time since then. It seems, however, that that will soon be changing.

Recently on Twitter, Dontnod confirmed that tomorrow, which is May 31, it’ll have new news and “some clues” to share about what it’s been working on. Whether that means we’re getting a brief tease of a new game or an outright announcement remains to be seen, but it definitely looks like we’ll know about one of the studio’s news projects soon enough.

Back in late 2020, Dontnod Entertainment revealed that it had six games in development at the time. In all likeliness, one of those six was Twin Mirror, which was a month away from launch at the time, but there’s no word on what any of the other five are.

We do know that Dontnod Entertainment has partnered with Focus Entertainment on another new RPG following the success of Vampyr, and that work on that project is ramping up. Perhaps we’ll be getting a glimpse of what that game will be? Either way, it looks like we’ll find out soon enough, so stay tuned.

A little birdie told us that if you come back here tomorrow, you'll see some news from us and maybe even get some clues as to what we've been working on!

Dontnod attributes Twin Mirror's underperformance to "a market that is globally saturated by the end of 2021" and "the sudden closure of the Chinese market."

Dontnod Entertainment seems to have big things lined up for the future in both the near- and long-term. 2022 will see the studio ramping up production of its next action RPG, while its plans for expanding into the publishing space are also underway (for both indie titles and self-published games). At the same time, the French studio has also provided updated details on how some of its past releases have been faring on the commercial front.

The last game Dontnod Entertainment released was Twin Mirror, which launched in December 2020 to lukewarm critical reception at best. That reception has been reflected in poor sales as well, with the company revealing that it has so far only managed to recoup 75% of its production investments. Due to a couple of factors, in fact, Dontnod doesn’t expect the situation on that front to improve too much. Specifically, the developer attribites that to “a market that is globally saturated by the end of 2021” and “the sudden closure of the Chinese market”- which, it says, it “not expected to be lifted in the medium term.”

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Vampyr, the Focus Entertainment-published action RPG that launched in 2018, seems to be doing rather well for itself. It’s hit another sales milestone, with over 2 million units sold worldwide, and was also downloaded 8 million times in 2021 thanks to a free Epic Games Story giveaway. At last count, in April 2019, Vampyr had sold over a million units.

Twin Mirror is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while Vampyr is available on those three platforms in addition to the Nintendo Switch.

This will also entail "the launch of a new production line dedicated to this segment," the French developer confirms.

Dontnod Entertainment has largely been known for its excellent narrative-driven adventure titles like Life is Strange and Tell Me Why, but the French studio has had some success in other genres as well. Back in 2018, the developer partnered with publisher Focus Entertainment (then known as Focus Home Interactive) for action RPG Vampyr, and following its success, it was announced in April 2019 that the two companies would be partnering up on another game.

Updates on that project have been scant since then, but it seems it’s moving full steam ahead. In a report outlining the company’s outlook for 2022, Dontnod Entertainment confirmed that it would be ramping up development on the Focus Entertainment-published action RPG.

“In 2022 DONTNOD will strengthen its production capacity in the buoyant action-RPG segment, through the ramp-up of development of Project 8 with Focus Entertainment and the launch of a new production line dedicated to this segment,” the developer says.

Details on the game are still scant, but back in 2019, it was said that it would be “one of the most ambitious in the history of the publisher and the studio.”

Meanwhile, Dontnod has reiterated that it has a total of six games in development right now. Previously, the studio has also said that it plans to self-publish five games by 2025. Beyond that, it will also be publishing two indie-developed games in PortaPlay’s Gerda: A Flame in Winter and Studio Tolima’s next game.

The French company is further expanding its presence in the publishing space and will partner with Belgium-based Studio Tolima.

Dontnod Entertainment may have started out as a small team making relatively niche games like Life is Strange, but the company has been expanding in significant ways of late. Just a couple of months ago, it was announced that indie studio PortaPlay’s narrative lite-RPG Gerda: A Flame in Winter would mark the studio’s publishing debut, and now, we know what the next step in that journey is going to be as well.

Dontnod Entertainment has announced that it will also be publishing the next game by Belgium-based team Studio Tolima. The deal will also see the company co-producing the title with the developer, with Dontnod providing “its knowledge and experience acquired with its previous titles” to Studio Tolima “in order to support this future creation in its development and marketing.”

While the full extent of this co-production deal and what it will entail behind-the-scenes hasn’t been detailed, Dontnod says in its announcement, “This controlled co-production, developed by a handful of talents and based on a minimalist universe, offers significant adaptation potential both in terms of media (PC, mobile, tablet) and language versions to address the most dynamic markets.”

Dontnod Entertainment will hold the majority rights of the IP, whatever it turns out to be- details on what sort of a game is in the works or what genre it will fall in are scant for now. That said, the company says its publishing and marketing departments “have been strengthened and are now made of more than 20 talents” and will allow it to “support future game releases, whether self-published or developed by external studios.”

In addition to publishing titles developed by external partners, Dontnod Entertainment also currently plans on releasing five self-published internally developed titles by 2025. Read more on that through here.

Gerda: A Flame in Winter is a narrative driven lite-RPG set against the backdrop of WW2 in Denmark, developed by PortaPlay and published by Dontnod.

Developer PortaPlay very recently announced its upcoming project Gerda: A Flame in Winter, a narrative lite-RPG for Nintendo Switch and PC. Check out the announcement teaser trailer down below.

Gerda: A Flame In Winter is set against the backdrop of World War 2, in Germany-occupied Denmark, and is supposedly inspired by real-life events. The game mostly focuses on the narrative side of things as players take control of Gerda, a nurse who she tries to save her loved ones while maintaining her code of honor. How it will all play out is still a mystery, but the concept looks intriguing either way.

Interestingly enough, Gerda: A Flame in Winter also marks the publishing debut for Dontnod Entertainment of Life Is Strange and Twin Mirror fame. The game will be releasing on Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam) sometime next year. Gerda is sure to come back with new details, so stay tuned for more updates.

On PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S, Dontnod Entertainment's RPG now runs at 1440p and 30 FPS, while on the Xbox One X, it runs at 1296p and 30 FPS.

Dontnod Entertainment’s 2018 RPG Vampyr might not have been their best or most polished game, but it was very much a diamond in the rough, and had more than enough going for it to be able to amass a sizeable audience and fanbase.

Now, you can play the game on consoles once again (or for the first time, if you haven’t yet jumped it) with improved resolution and performance. Dontnod Entertainment recently took to Twitter via the game’s official page and announced that a new patch for it has now gone live, following which it runs at 1440p and 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, Xbox Series S and PS4 Pro players can enjoy the game at 1440p and 30 FPS, while Xbox One X will run the game at 1296p and 30 FPS.

Vampyr is available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can read our review of the game through here.

Back in April 2019, publisher Focus Entertainment (known then as Focus Home Interactive) announced that the game had sold over 1 million units, and that the publisher and developer Dontnod Entertainment were going to collaborate on another new project. There have been no updates on that project since then.

Due to the pressures of the ongoing pandemic, the development team will receive more time to work on the remastered titles.

Deck Nine Games has announced that Life is Strange: Remastered Collection, which features remasters of Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm, has been delayed. Instead of September, it will now be releasing in early 2022. Life is Strange: True Colors is still on track for its release on September 10th while its Wavelengths DLC arrives on September 30th.

As for the reason behind the delay, the developer cited the current pandemic. It wants to “alleviate any additional pressure” on the team by providing more time between the release of Life is Strange: True Colors and the Remastered Collection. More details will be revealed in the coming months but a first look trailer will premiere tomorrow for Wavelengths in the meantime.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection is in development for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch. Along with the first two games in the series, which sport improved visuals, it also adds improvements to the gameplay and puzzles. Bonus content like the Farewell episode and Chloe’s outfits are also included.

Matt Booty isn't going to tell Psychonauts 2 director Tim Schafer to make a game "that has seasons and goes on for five years."

Despite numerous high-profile failures in the live service genre, many companies continue to pursue the model in some form or fashion. Xbox Game Studios is in an advantageous position with live service titles like Sea of Thieves and even Fallout 76 performing quite well. But that doesn’t meant it’s in a hurry to have every game be an “ongoing, sustained game” as per Matt Booty.

The Xbox Game Studios head told The Guardian that, “We don’t have any direction or mandate that says every game has to be an ongoing, sustained game.” Psychonauts, which has a sequel out on August 25th, and Double Fine Productions were provided as an example. “There might be a Psychonauts 3, but I’m not going to tell [designer] Tim Schafer to go make it. Knowing the history of games that he makes, I don’t think he’s going to be making a game that has seasons and goes on for five years.”

Even with the success of games like Sea of Thieves and Halo Infinite delving into the live service model, Booty says that Xbox still values standalone titles. “Sea of Thieves has longevity and we’re going to have Halo multiplayer start to be based around seasons, but Compulsion Games, our studio in Montreal, weren’t told to go build something that’s going to have seasons or six pieces of DLC or something. Tell Me Why was an important story for us to get out there, but there is no mandate that they’ve got to go figure out how to do seasons for that game.”

Of course, this can also be seen in Halo Infinite which, despite having seasons and an evolving platform, is still providing a fairly robust campaign. As it stands, Xbox Game Studios has a lot in the pipeline for the coming years, from the next Fable and Forza Horizon 5 to Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 and Avowed. This doesn’t include projects where it’s tying up with developers like Avalanche Studios for Contraband or IO Interactive for the rumored Project Dragon. To say that it has enough room for both live service and standalone, narrative-focused games would be an understatement.
