Alongside a release date, Rebel Wolves also revealed some new open-world gameplay for The Blood of Dawnwalker. It kicks off with Coen hanging from a vantage point and observing different points of interest, including villages, forests, and more.
These are added to your map, which shows soldier camps, quests, people who might need help, watchtowers, mysteries, and more. At night, Coen can transform into a wolf to run faster, and even transition from this into human form to execute Death from Above, assassinating an enemy before battle. In response to feedback, opening the skill wheel is no longer required to change abilities, as a Quick Selection option is now available.
One of the activities involves restoring a shrine, as you venture to a camp with Brencis’s soldiers, eliminate them and recover the heart. Shrines let you unlock new Perks, though doing so will progress time. Aside from skill points, you’ll need to increase your Corruption Level, which can be done by feeding.
However, clearing camps increases Infamy, raising the aggression of the Vampire Lords who will enact new Edits, like more military checkpoints. There’s a Nemesis System-like bent to this, as you complete different activities to annoy specific Lords, thus unlocking new narrative quests, thus influencing the story.
There are also Haunted Sights, which can improve abilities but require Astral Communion, transporting you to a different dimension to engage in a challenging fight. Of course, as the closing wide shot reveals, much more awaits, and further exploring the open world will unlock even more activities.
The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, retailing for $69.99.
