The Elder Scrolls 6’s Exclusivity Still Hasn’t Been Decided, Says Phil Spencer

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has once again suggested that the decision has yet to be made on whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to Xbox.

With Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios has released its first ever title as a first party Xbox developer, and though the studio is, of course, going to continue focusing on the sci-fi RPG for a while, there’s already no shortage of excitement around what will come next either. The Elder Scrolls 6 will be BGS’ next big project, and though it’s still a ways off from launch (to say the least), questions about whether it, too, will be an Xbox console exclusive continue to be asked by the masses.

And it seems there’s still no clear answer on that front. Though there have been some suggestions in the past that The Elder Scrolls 6 will indeed skip a PlayStation launch, in a recent interview with Bloomberg, Xbox boss Phil Spencer indicated that that decision has still yet to be made, and that whether or not a title will be exclusive to Xbox is a decision the company will make on a case-by-case basis, something he has said in the past as well.

“We look at it on a case-by-case basis with the games that we build,” Spencer said (transcription via VGC). “We want to make sure our games are available in so many different places – on our Xbox consoles, on PC, also via cloud, these games can come to almost any web-enabled device.

“We’re looking at millions and millions of players who will have access to Starfield and other Xbox Game Studios games. It’s really about giving players choice around how they want to play and build their library of games.”

As for when The Elder Scrolls 6 will be out, the wait for the fantasy RPG, which was officially announced back in 2018, is going to be a long one. It recently exited pre-production and entered full development, though earlier this year, Phil Spencer said that the game was still at least over 5 years away from launch.
