MORE MOBILITY
Ellie being the primary protagonist instead of Joel will obviously have major repercussions on the story, but as you’d expect, that will also change the gameplay in noticeable ways. More specifically, Ellie is much more nimble than Joel, which means she has more movement options that will come into play for both, stealth and traversal. She can jump, climb surfaces, slide, and even crawl under vehicles to hide from unfriendly eyes. During stealth, she can go prone and crawl in tall grass, and while she’s doing so, she can also move around (to a limited degree) to aim her weapon. Finally, there’s also a dedicated dodge button in The Last of Us Part 2, which means that melee combat should also be much more dynamic than it was in the first game.
