Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part 2 will have Neil Druckmann on-board as director but interestingly enough, Bruce Straley – who directed The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 with Druckmann – won’t be returning. This is because Straley is currently on a year-long sabbatical.

According to Sony, who issued the statement to Kotaku, “Bruce recently decided to take some much deserved time off after shipping two critically acclaimed games in the last few years. He’s looking forward to returning to the studio soon and jumping back in on his next project.”

Straley has been working at Naughty Dog for nearly 20 years so the timing couldn’t have been better. We do know that The Last of Us: Part 2 is still in early development, running on an updated engine of the studio’s. It will also star Ellie as a playable character though Joel will be returning this time around as well.

What are your thoughts on a sequel without Straley working with Druckmann? Let us know in the comments below.
