The Outer Worlds 2 headlined the post-Xbox Games Showcase Direct with Obsidian Entertainment sharing new details on its factions, companions, and more. As outlined in a new Xbox Wire post, there are three factions to deal with – The Protectorate, The Order of the Ascendant, and Auntie’s Choice.

They don’t just possess unique areas and followers. Depending on your decisions, they capture towns and even influence the radio broadcasts. Obsidian’s senior communications manager, Shyla Schofield, notes, “Your decisions are retold with spin, bias, and cheery jingles tailored to each faction’s agenda. One station might call you a folk hero. Another might name you public enemy number one. All of them think you should try their new line of health tonics.”

There are new and returning weapons (like the Shrink Ray), Traits like Kleptomaniac (offering an increase to selling loot, but you risk automatically stealing an item at any time), and even third-person mode.

Players can recruit six different companions, though they vary from allies to “wild cards” and “occasional liabilities.” Each provides vastly different options – like sparing faction leaders or eradicating a town – and you’re free to refuse them if you don’t mind missing any questlines.

They include Niles, an Earth Directorate recruit; Inez, an Auntie’s Choice experiment with a “grafted combat edge”; the violent Rift worshipper Aza; Marisol, an Order of the Ascendant killer; Protectorate judge Tristen; and support unit Valerie.

Launching on October 29th, The Outer Worlds 2 will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC for $79.99. You can also play it on day one via Game Pass.
