Here’s something interesting – amidst all the hype for CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, quest designer Nicolas Kolm told told German site Computerbild that Ciri is the main character of the game.
“For me Cirilla is the main character in Witcher 3. The story is actually about her. Geralt is just the vessel through which we narrate the story.”
Ciri (seen above) is a target for the Wild Hunt in The Witcher 3 and Geralt is in charge of finding and protecting her and the powers she holds. She was also be a playable character in some places.
CD Projekt RED clarified the comments made on its forums, stating that, “You’re all more than welcome to have different opinions on the matter. After all, that’s all it was (even said so in the article, thank you German Journalist for putting in the full quote). Not sure how some people seem to think that this means Geralt is nerfed or made less important.
“Telling a story through a certain characters eyes, but having that story revolve around another character does not belittle the ‘vessel’ in any way. Look at games such as Last of Us for examples of what I mean. And me dissing Geralt? How could I ever diss a fellow beard-man? That’s just silly.
“Edit: Before someone construes this as meaning that we rip of Last of Us, that’s NOT what this means. That’s just an example of what I was describing and has no bearing on the story or game of Witcher Wild Hunt. Thanks.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out on May 19th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC so stay tuned for more information on just how much screen time Ciri gets.
