The Witness
“Meticulous” is one way to describe the visual style of Jonathan Blow’s The Witness. Everything in the game thus far seems to have been built to fit a purpose, though what that purpose could be is anyone’s guess. There’s nothing overtly complicated with the textures – in fact, the whole purpose of the graphics seems to be seeking a clean, polished approach that becomes more detailed as you take a closer look. You don’t have to look far for depth though as the island The Witness takes place on is home to many kinds of vegetation and landscapes.
From a technical standpoint, Blow is already doing ensuring that The Witness has excellent lighting, shadows, water physics and real-time weather. Again, how this all plays out in the final game remains to be seen but The Witness could easily be one of our more loved games in terms of a unique art style this year.
