METRO 2033
Metro 2033 has two endings, but the one we’re concerned with here is the Ranger ending, which, incidentally, is also the canonical one. Artyom allows the missiles to fire, which leads to the destruction of the Dark Ones, but it’s promptly revealed that the Dark Ones weren’t all that evil after all, that they’d been acting in self-defense, and what they sought above all was peace with humanity. By the time Artyom comes to this realization though, it’s too late, and the missiles have already been fired.
