THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK’S AWAKENING
Link spends the entirety of Link’s Awakening fighting against monstrous beings as he attempts to awaken the Wind Fish, and as he does so, he grows intimately familiar with the island of Koholint, and all its inhabitants. Only when Link successfully awakens the Wind Fish at the end, it’s revealed that the entire island and everyone in it were just a part of Link’s dreams, and everyone he’d met and befriended throughout the game pretty much disappears out of existence. It’s a heartbreaking ending, and one of the most memorable moments ever in a Zelda game.
