In writing Alistair was a completely different character

Those of us who have worked in the movie industry or the media industry will know by now that everything looks great on paper, however the problem comes with the execution part. David Gaider was inspired by Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly, and from the many concepts of Alistair, he wanted to base Xander as a reference for Alistair. For those of you who are unaware David Gaider is a senior writer at BioWare’s Edmonton studio, where he has worked since 1999. He is the Lead Writer of Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
