Speaking during the Xbox stream at Gamescom, head of gaming at Microsoft Phil Spencer has said that bringing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PS5 is a result of previously releasing games that were originally Xbox console exclusives on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, and the success that they enjoyed on those new platforms, as caught by VGC.
“Going to the PlayStation announcement, obviously, last spring we launched four games – two of them on the Switch, four of them on PlayStation – and we said we were going to learn,” said Spencer, referring to the release of Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded on PS5 and Nintendo Switch. “I think at the showcase I might have said that from our learning, we’re going to do more.”
Spencer went on to explain that he sees the success of those four releases as a sign that Xbox’s franchises are stronger.
“It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft that the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery that we have to give back to the company, because we get a level of support from the company that is just amazing in terms of what we’re able to go do,” said Spencer. “So I look at this: how can we make our games as strong as possible, [ensure that] our platform continues to grow both on console, PC and cloud, and I think it’s just going to be a strategy that works for us.”
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was announced for PS5 during Gamescom. It is worth noting, however, that while PC and Xbox Series X/S will get the game on December 9, PS5 will have to wait until Spring 2025.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is also slated to be a part of the upcoming Xbox @ Gamescom 2024 livestream on August 23, likely featuring more gameplay details.
