In December last year, Nihon Falcom announced that Ys IX: Monstrum Nox would be launching for the PS4 in Japan in 2019. They’ve now confirmed on Twitter a more concrete release window for the game- it’ll be out in Fall this year (though a Western release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, as you probably guessed).

With a new protagonist, a new setting, and several new mechanics, Ys IX is promising to be a soft reboot of sorts. It takes place on Prison City, a city in Bardeuk, in northern Esteria, and introduces a new traversal mechanic called “Traverse Action” which allows for more vertical exploration. Meanwhile,  the battle system and guild system from the previous games will be returning.

Footage and more details on the game will be coming later this month at the Dengeki Game Festival, which takes place on March 24. We can probably expect more details on the game’s narrative setup and new mechanics around that time. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for continued coverage.
