007 First Light Extended Operations

IO Interactive promised “free DLC” for 007 First Light today but remained fairly vague on what that meant. The answer is Extended Operations, the biggest free update to the action-adventure title yet, packed with long-requested features like New Game+ and Photo Mode.

First and foremost are two new TacSim missions: Valhalla Protocol, where Bond races through Slovakia in the Aston Martin Valhalla, wreaking havoc with its weaponry, and Jungle Heist, set in the Pearl Hotel yet requiring far different approaches. Players can acquire two new weapons to help – the Storm 12 Gauge and Squire Marksman Rifle – and dress up in three new outfits – Observant Spy, Leisure Beam and First Class.

As for New Game+, you can access a new difficulty, 00, and can play with any unlocked outfit. Perhaps the biggest change, however, is that you can swap gadgets on the fly, though you’ll still have to progress through the story to unlock them. Photo Mode is also available with an extensive amount of settings, filters, effects, and more for the most discerning virtual photographers.

And if that isn’t enough, IOI improved weapon handling animations, resulting in “smoother and more responsive” reloading, weapon swaps, and more. Interestingly, enemies can now also throw Bond off ledges, adding a new element of danger to melees.

007 First Light is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version out next year in March. It’s sold four million copies and received strong critical acclaim – check out our review here.
