Complex Dialogue Trees – Fallout, Baldur’s Gate
To make this clear: There are a number of CRPGs like Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 and so on that have complex dialogue trees. Dialogue and conversations often leverage your stats like Charisma, your alignment (Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic et al) and past decisions. BioWare had a similar system in games like Mass Effect and of course, we’ve seen Fallout 3 incorporate the same.
More mainstream modern RPGs have avoided this, however, with Fallout 4 streamlining its dialogue trees (Far Harbor brought some semblance of Skill Checks at least). Then there’s Anthem. The less said about Anthem, the better.
