THE WALKING DEAD

Why It Isn’t Working So Well

To be fair, it’s working pretty well. Telltale have done incredible work with their The Walking Dead license, and while each season has arguably not been as good as the last, there’s no denying that the overall quality of the series has been top notch. But here’s the thing- The Walking Dead games are restricted to being glorified point and click adventures, when really, they could and should be so much more. What also doesn’t help is the fact that the few non-Telltale Walking Dead games we’ve got have been so bad, we almost keep forgetting that they even exist. And really, when you look at the basic premise of The Walking Dead, it makes no sense that we haven’t yet had a good fully interactive game in that franchise.

How It Could Be Better

WITH NAUGHTY DOG

Take one good look at The Last of Us and this becomes so much easier to explain. That game tackles so many themes and issues that both the comics and the TV show of The Walking Dead do as well, and many might even argue that it does it all better. Naughty Dog are masters of storytelling, they have some of the best writers in the business, and The Last of Us shows that they are more than capable of building the kind of atmosphere and tension that a setting like The Walking Dead needs to be able to properly captivate its audiences. If there is one developer that can do justice to this series’ spectacle and action while also giving it the storytelling treatment it deserves, it’s Naughty Dog.
