Abandoned Tower in Fukuoka – Professor Layton and the Curious Village
The Professor Layton series kicked off in 2007 with Professor Layton and the Curious Village. It sees the professor and his apprentice Luke traveling to St. Mystere to solve the mystery of the Golden Apple. Upon entering the town, one can spot a large tower that’s seemingly on the verge of collapse. According to the game’s official Twitter, this was actually inspired by an abandoned tower for an old coal mine located near the developer’s office in Fukuoka, Japan. It’s referred to as the winding tower of Shime Coal Mine which became popular due the Anti-Zombie Fortress meme way back in the day. Though the overall structure looks less trippy, the moss on the side and winding structure feel similar.
