With Resident Evil 6, Capcom ambitiously set out to break the explosions-per-minute world record in a video game- nothing is more emblematic of that ridiculous action-heavy approach than the infamous highway explosion in Leon and Helena’s campaign. After a truck falls into a fissure and explodes, it sets off an unbelievably over-the-top chain reaction that sees every single vehicle furiously blowing up, with the highway crumbling beneath Leon and Helena’s feet as they run toward a chopper waiting to extract them. The fact that the chopper then crashes into a building in yet another unnecessarily over-the-top sequence does nothing to dull this pointless scene’s pain.
