Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Capcom may have done everything possible to kill off its illustrious franchise with Resident Evil 6 (seriously, four horrible campaigns for the price of one? Just…why?) but Resident Evil: Revelations managed to salvage whatever credibility was still left. It did this by – shocker! – going back to the game’s survival horror roots and actually frightening players.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is taking a decidedly different approach with its episodic content but the entire kidnapping and filming of Claire and Moira as they attempt to escape a facility teeming with monsters at least points to a horror motif. Capcom also seems to be placing emphasis on the darkness as you’ll need Moira to shine her flashlight on surroundings and properly identify enemies. The addition of another side of the story with Barry Burton manages to keep the Resident Evil feel without overdoing the campaign.

So while Resident Evil HD will no doubt invoke the nostalgia of the franchise’s roots, Resident Evil: Revelations will look to take it forward, one episodic release at a time.
