THE NEW ORDER WASN’T THE FIRST REBOOT
Wolfenstein: The New Order didn’t wipe the slate clean when it reimagined the series, but though it did share narrative strands with the 2009 Raven Software-developed game called simply Wolfenstein, it was essentially a reboot of the series- but it wasn’t the first Wolfenstein sequel. The first was, of course, Wolf 3D, which brought the series into a new genre and eve introduced William B.J. Blazkowicz (who’s been the series’ main protagonist ever since). The second was Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the beloved 2001 shooter, with the third, of course, being The New Order.
