Super Smash Bros. Melee

To understand just how good Super Smash Bros. Melee looked, it’s important to realize just how limited its predecessor was. Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64 featured a small roster but the amount of detail it could provide, both in terms of character polygonal counts and environmental textures, was extremely limited. Thanks to the GameCube’s increased power, Melee offered a huge step up with icons like Mario having realistically textured denim on his overalls, improved animations and proper facial expressions. Response-wise, Melee is still considered the crème of the crop but in terms of its aesthetic and visuals, it blazed a trail for future sequels to follow.
