Max Payne
Remedy’s breakout success, the original Max Payne perfectly encapsulates the spirit of neo-noir thrillers and features one of the most depressing starts to any game. The game opens up with Max Payne, an NYPD detective apparently living the American Dream as he comes home to his lovely wife and a baby daughter. But fate had different plans in place for Payne, and his family is brutally murdered by some thugs under the effect of the Valkyr drug. The grand reveal is foreshadowed by blood stains across the bathroom and drug addicts having stormed his house, and Payne eventually falls down to the ground crying in tears as he loses the only family he ever had.
