This quote right here is such a perfect encapsulation of how Solid Snake is as a person, and what drives him on to keep on fighting. It shows that he takes no pride in his work, which – after all is said and done – involves a bunch of killing, even though the people around him continue to build him up as a legend. Snake’s sense of duty and his single-minded conviction to get on with the job and not feel all high and mighty about what he’s doing is what defines him as a character, and this quote is the perfect representation of that.
