Metal Gear as a series never shied away from putting the harsh realities of war front and centre every chance it got. Solid Snake was often the man who, in spite of being deeply embroiled in most of those conflicts, understood better than most what a slippery slope it could be for a person’s souls. This quote hits hard, because it’s brutal in its honesty, and yet another moment (one of many throughout this entire series) that shows us that though he will do what needs to be done, Snake takes no joy in his job.
