Apex Legends – Heirloom Items
As a famous gacha character once said, “Gacha is bad civilization.” But that doesn’t stop EA from taking the very worst gacha mechanics and implementing it into Apex Legends with Heirloom Items. Available during Collection Events, these are essentially unique melee weapons for each character. They don’t provide any gameplay benefits but offer another means of cosmetic customization. To get them, you need to earn all other cosmetics from the event, which are only available in random Apex Packs (and inevitably, you’ll have to spend money for packs, though at least there are no duplicates). Once you’ve done that, you get the Heirloom Item. But it gets even better.
If you miss out on an Heirloom Item during an event, it will be added to the store. So just spend real money and get it directly right? Wrong. You need to collect Heirloom Shards, which have a less than 1 percent chance of dropping from Apex Packs. Each “drop” contains 150 Shards though which is enough to buy one Heirloom item. At 500 Packs, you’re guaranteed to get 150 Shards, assuming RNG has been that cruel to you. Respawn has come up with different ways to ease the Heirloom pain – like reduced crafting costs and providing more “definite” ways to earn Shards – but it’s still a massive time and/or money sink.
