ANY SENSE OF LOGIC IN THE ZELDA TIMELINE
When Nintendo officially launched the Hyrule Historia book in 2011, they broke the internet. Zelda fans leapt up with joy in unison all across the globe- the series’ long-theorized timeline was real. It was an actual thing. The Legend of Zelda wasn’t just a collection of isolated, individual stories, but rather a grand epic tale spanning centuries, of a cyclical conflict between forces that kept on taking new shapes and forms as the ages went by. And then Nintendo released Breath of the Wild and they screwed it all up again. Breath of the Wild could take place in any one or neither of the three timelines. And yeah- there are three timelines! None of them are canon- all of them are! But which fricking timeline does Breath of the Wild fall into? Is the Zelda timeline even a thing anymore? Have Nintendo just given up on it? Are we just needlessly losing our minds over it? Nintendo are screwing with us. They’re toying with us. We’re their playthings. They’re laughing manically in the shadows while we’re holding furious debates. Please, Nintendo, just tell us what it means. What does it all mean?!
