THE TRUNK THEORY- SILENT HILL 2

Silent Hill 2 was a watershed moment for the survival horror genre in video games. Its brand of psychological horror was unlike anything we’d seen up until that point, and its characterization of James and revelations about the manifestations of his guilt and suffering truly elevated that game to an instant classic status.

Given its very nature, it’s a game that is bound to spawn multiple theories, but the one that stands out more than most is one that says that James had actually killed Mary just a few days prior to the events of the game, and then stowed her corpse into the trunk of his car, where she’d been the entire time, with her sickness being a “death sentence” being the fiction James had created to rationalize his actions. Actually, you know what? Given the kind of game Silent Hill 2 is, we might just give this one a pass.
