DOOM 3

DOOM as a series has a very particular identity that it has been associated with throughout its long and illustrious life, and the thing that defines the series more than anything else is its furious pace, driven by gory, frantic combat. With DOOM 3, id Software tried something different, going with a survival horror tone instead of the action-packed nature of its predecessors (and successors)- and it worked very well. It was received very well by critics and audiences alike- and yet, when people talk about the series, they often end up ignoring DOOM 3, either inadvertently or otherwise, simply because of how different it is from all the other games in the series. And while that’s sort of understandable, that doesn’t make it any less unfair, because DOOM 3 is a spectacular game in every sense of the word.
