Heavy Rain

While the urge to “Press X to Jason” can be unreasonably high, everyone in Heavy Rain goes through countless hardships. Madison keeps running into psychopaths trying to kill her (and nearly succeeding each time). Ethan starts the game with his son having died and entering a coma, which is followed by blackouts and other assorted trauma (plus he gets divorced). Shaun, Ethan’s other son, is also kidnapped thus forcing Ethan to undergo several horrifying trials from the Origami Killer like drinking poison and cutting off a finger. Depending on the endings, it’s possible for Shaun to die, Ethan to kill himself (while being framed as the killer) and Jayden to overdose on Triptocaine. Yikes.
