Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
Ground Zeroes was simply the teaser – with Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, the franchise had fully made the transition into the open world. This provided a number of different gameplay opportunities, from infiltrating a base under the cover of night with stealth and tact to going in, guns-blazing, while the enemy adapts to your tactics. Cardboard boxes, FULTONs, and robot arms are just some of the tools that players can use, and the world is rife with different side missions to complete. It may not have been the most complete story that fans wanted but in terms of open world stealth and systemic gameplay, The Phantom Pain is top-notch.
