Before it turned heads with Returnal, Housemarque flexed its bullet hell muscles with Nex Machina: Death Machine. Fast-paced and beautiful, with particles out of the wazoo, it’s not just a homage to Smash TV or Robotron – it had Eugene Jarvis, who designed those very same classics, as a creative consultant. The result is a challenging but addictive twin-stick shoot ’em up.
