CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arguably one of the best games to release in the past few years and is a strong contender for Game of the Year. As so usually happens with a game as beloved as this, many wonder when the sequel will happen. Besides the fact that CDPR will support Witcher 3 till 2017 before focusing on Cyberpunk 2077, CEO Marcin Iwinski simply said in an interview with Game Informer that they haven’t thought about The Witcher 4.

“Honestly speaking, we have not.

The series itself “deserves some rest,” according to Iwinski. “The past 10 years the team has been working on swords and castles and medieval Slavic monsters. So I think it’s time for some guns, androids, and some ammo. And a necropolis. So this is what we’ll be working on.”

There’s plenty of opportunity to tell more stories in The Witcher’s universe but there still don’t seem to be plans for a sequel any time soon. “We definitely are not annualizing a franchise or anything – it’s about the experience. The world of The Witcher is gigantic and it’s great to tell these stories, but I don’t know when this will happen.”
