Sony Responds To Microsoft’s Offer Of Cross Play Between PS4 And Xbox One

Sony responded without actually answering.

Rocket League Snow Day

Games like Rocket League have been getting quite a bit of press over the last few weeks for being offered as a cross platform game. Microsoft seemed to understand the success of that game and the fact that gamers want to play them against other players across multiple platforms. To that end, the company sent out an invitation to the other platform holders to basically end the segregation between those platforms, at least for some games. If the offer is accepted it would be a massive shift in the way video games are played.

On Wednesday, Sony responded to the invitation … kind of, though the company didn’t respond all that decisively. The company sent a statement to GameSpot when it was asked whether or not it would actually be interested in offering cross platform gaming with Microsoft. “PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002,” reads the statement from the corporation. We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.”

As GameSpot points out, it’s hard to read into the response because Sony did not mentioned Microsoft in its response. Or is this the kind of non-answer we can take to mean they really don’t have any interest in taking Microsoft up on its offer. If something does happen with this, it’s a safe bet it will be a little while before we get confirmation. Stay tuned.
