Cuphead Delayed to Mid-2017

Studio MHDR wanted to ship with "our vision intact".

Cuphead

Studio MDHR’s eagerly awaited indie platformer Cuphead has been delayed again. It will now be releasing in mid-2017 for Xbox One and PC.

The developer noted that the delay was made in order to retain the original scope rather than watering it down to fit the current release date. “We wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81. Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact.”

Cuphead has made quite the impression in the years since its reveal, primarily due to its 1930’s style animation that calls to mind classics like Steamboat Willy. Even if such a huge delay is disappointing, at least the emphasis on quality is clear.

What are your thoughts on Cuphead’s delay? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.
