Need for Speed Payback Will let Players Turn Off Car Destruction Replay Camera

"Keep them on or turn them off, the choice is entirely down to you.”

Need for Speed Payback (12)

Modern Need for Speed games are built upon the corpse of (the much superior) Burnout series. And as fans of that (far better) franchise might recall, Burnout had somewhat of a penchant for car destruction porn. Car destruction would be gorgeously rendered with great damage models and physics, and shown off in loving detail with slow motion replays.

This is a feature that will also be in this year’s upcoming Need for Speed Payback– but only if you want it to. EA has confirmed that players will have the option to turn the destruction replay camera off entirely. “When we first showcased the Highway Heist back at EA Play, part of the feedback we started to receive centered around the short camera sequence that was displayed when a car crashed,” EA said to VG247.“We began to investigate to see what was possible and we’re pleased to confirm that car wreck cameras will be an option you have control over. Keep them on or turn them off, the choice is entirely down to you.”

In a game about racing and speed, I can see why many players might think that constant intrusions by a slow motion camera might be annoying. Nevertheless, it does sadden me that the final relics of the Burnout franchise are now officially being laid to rest.

Need for Speed Payback also received a new story trailer which you can check out here. The game is due out this November for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
