RAGE 2 on Switch Still Being Considered, But Bethesda Uncertain if It Could Happen

The problem is in the game's engine, which is separate from the one used in DOOM.

Bethesda has been one of the strongest supporters of the Switch so far- they’ve brought Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein 2 to the system, not to mention their numerous free to play games, and they have DOOM Eternal announced for a day and date launch with the other versions. Clearly, they’re doing far more for the Switch than any other third party is.

But some of their upcoming games don’t have Switch versions announced- such as RAGE 2, the sequel to id Software’s open world shooter, being developed in conjunction with Avalanche Studios. Bethesda has previously said that they will look into a Switch version, something that Bethesda’s VP of marketing Pete Hines recently reaffirmed in an interview with DualShockers.

“We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech,” he said. “The nice thing about DOOM, Wolf, and DOOM Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche’s engine, so it’s a different beast in terms of a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.”

Which is fair- and honestly, given just how enthusiastic Bethesda has been with bringing its games over to the Switch, I think we can safely give them the benefit of the doubt when they say that something might not work on the system.

RAGE 2 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.
