Telltale Working to Hand Off Production For The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Depending on its efforts, The Walking Dead: The Final Season may not return to storefronts.

Recently, The Walking Dead: The Final Season was pulled from digital storefronts. One could infer that this is because Telltale will not be completing development on the remaining two episodes. However, the developer confirmed to Polygon that it’s currently looking for potential partners to “hand off” production to.

“Yes, we have removed season passes for The Walking Dead: The Final Season from stores for the time being. We’re currently still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes 3 and 4 so that the season can be completed. The outcome of those efforts will determine when and how The Final Season returns to stores. We hope to have a firm announcement before the end of the week. For now, we apologize for any inconvenience.”

So if Telltale can’t find anyone by then, The Walking Dead: The Final Season could indeed remain incomplete. Currently, only two episodes for the adventure game are currently available to play for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Telltale had undergone a majority studio closure last week, putting the future of numerous projects in jeopardy. Reports indicated that the remainder of staff left were working on Minecraft: Story Mode to fulfil contractual obligations. Some titles like Stranger Things could still be made under a different developer. For all intents and purposes though, Telltale Games is pretty much defunct.
