Detroit: Become Human Developer Will Go Multiplatform With Future Games

Chinese company NetEase acquires stake in Quantic Dream.

Quantic Dream has made games with Sony exclusively for PlayStation platforms for a while now. From Heavy Rain in 2010 to Beyond: Two Souls in 2013, to of course, Detroit: Become Human last year, the developer has had such a close association with Sony that many may have expected it to continue going forward.

However, much like Remedy, who had a similar association with Xbox, and yet broke away to make multiplatform games, Quantic Dream too will now be making their games for multiple systems- which, perhaps, is the big news they were teasing not too long ago. Today, the company announced to VentureBeat that Chinese publisher NetEase has acquired a minority stake in Quantic Dream, and that going forward, their games will be coming to “all platforms”.

Frankly, I am surprised Sony didn’t want to add Quantic Dream to their umbrella of developers and studios, particularly given how well Detroit: Become Human did, but I suppose the controversy surrounding the studio has given them pause.
