Marvel’s Avengers Will Have A “Full Action Adventure Campaign”

Crystal Dynamics is promising a great deal of content.

Square Enix and developers Crystal Dynamics have made it abundantly clear by now that though Marvel’s Avengers is going to follow a post-launch live service model and will offer up healthy amounts of co-p experience, it’s still going to have a very strong single player core, with nearly every in-game activity supposedly being playable solo. But just how long and meaty is its campaign, the bones of the single player experience, going to be?

Creative Director Noah Hughes was asked the question in an interview with Wccftech, and though he didn’t divulge just how many hours of gameplay we can expect, he did say that we can guess how meaty the campaign is going to be based on previous games by Crystal Dynamics. Hughes claims that the main story accounts for less than half of the campaign’s content, citing side missions and activities aplenty for those who want to dabble in that stuff.

“We’re not talking about hours specifically,” said Hughes. “But we’re committed to having a full action adventure campaign. So even though we are expanding the game beyond launch, if you played Crystal Dynamics games in the past, the time it takes to get through the core campaign is often less than half of the content that you experience overall.”

“There will be a lot of missions that are optional missions,” Hughes continued. “And you can do them as you go along the campaign or you can wait till the end to sort of closeout, finish everything out. But there’s a lot of content. And it’s not unlike games we’ve made in the past in that sense. But in this game, we’ve promised that at no additional cost, you’ll get additional and you’ll get new heroes and regions is something extra to look forward to.”

The Tomb Raider games by Crystal Dynamics offered up plenty of content, and if that’s the pattern Avengers will be following, not to mention all the stuff that will be added to the game after launch, there’s probably not going to be much cause for concern as far as the amount of content is concerned- just don’t expect the game to be open world, though.

Marvel’s Avengers is out on May 15, 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Make sure to read up on everything we learned about the game at E3 2019.
