Gods and Monsters

Gaming is very unique when you compare it to other mediums. When you look at films, televisions, and books, the things that sell the biggest are those with the broadest audience appeal. Yes, there’s obviously big exception,s but think to the things that gross the biggest at the box office and get the biggest ratings and most of it is something you can sit down and enjoy with the whole family.

But when you look at video games, the biggest sellers and grossers are usually the 17-18+ affairs like Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption 2. What that says about gaming as a medium is something to think about it, but with Gods and Monsters, Ubisoft is looking to shake up things a bit with a big budget game the whole family can enjoy.

In talking with GamesIndustry, Alain Corre, EMEA director at Ubisoft, talked at length about Ubisoft’s upcoming release schedule. When talking about Gods and Monster, he said part of the goal was to show that they have more to offer for games that’ll be more ‘family friendly’ besides just their party games like Just Dance.

“We always want to come at the end of our conference with something unique and different. The ‘one more thing’,” Corre explains. “And we wanted to bring something fresh and to show that we are doing a lot of different games. Gods & Monsters will be a 12+ game, so that will go out to families, and we wanted to show the variety and diversity of what we had. We had a lot of Clancy games and we wanted to show that besides the Just Dance we are doing, that we have games for the family, too.”

The art style fits well with that idea, but we do know the game will have stamina and resource management, so there’s no knowing yet how that’ll play to everyone. Either way, it looks like a fun time when Gods and Monsters releases February 25th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and Stadia.
